Welcome - from the MCR President
Lincoln College

2008/09 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of Lincoln's Middle Common Room (MCR) - the oldest graduate common room in Oxford. While the MCR dates back a short time in Oxford's history, the College is considerably older being established in 1427. The College's magnificent fifteenth-century walls encompass a lively student community and a college administration dedicated to student success. Whether you are a prospective student, a current MCR member, or part of the alumni, this website will give you a glimpse into what we at Lincoln already know: Lincoln is a great place in which to live, study, and learn.

The term "MCR" refers to the postgraduate community, as well as the rooms that we share in College. Open twenty-four hours a day, the Lincoln MCR has big sofas, computer access, a selection of newspapers, and free coffee and tea guaranteed to tempt you away from the library. As Lincoln is in the heart of Oxford on Turl Street, the MCR quickly becomes central to student life.

Of course, the true MCR is made of its members. With over 200 graduates from around the globe, Lincoln's MCR is as diverse in its composition as in its research interests. The MCR is governed by a committee that is elected each year to handle the day-to-day running of the MCR and to organize social events. We hold the infamous Emily Carr Party to kick off each term and follow it up with exchange dinners, bops, musical evenings, punting expeditions and everything in between. When you finish your course, you will leave Lincoln with friends for life.

Academics bring each of us to Oxford, and the MCR actively supports academic interests. The MCR sponsors the Lord Florey series where graduate students present their research to the rest of the postgraduates. We also have termly "Conversazione", where topics are discussed with the Fellows of the College. Lincoln has a strong academic reputation and the College is dedicated to making your time at Oxford enjoyable and accessible through a series of scholarships and funds.

Lincoln College is a truly wonderful place and I hope you will consider being part of it. Please feel free to contact the members of the MCR Committee with questions about Lincoln. We look forward to welcoming you to this, our home.
