Monday 6th week (February 20) 5:30pm: Wine Tasting

This Monday we have another wine tasting, hosted by the incredibly knowledgable Lincoln Wine Steward, Nigel Wilson! You can sign up HERE.

The event will be subsidised by the MCR so will only cost a very reasonable £5, payable on the night. It will be in the Mary Lasker room from 5.30 – 7pm, so people can get to Formal Hall afterwards. Anyone that attended last time will know that this will be a really fun and interesting event that definitely shouldn’t be missed!

Tuesday 6th week (February 21) 8:30pm: Conversazione

Dr Pietro Roversi – EP Abraham Fellow in Biochemistry

(Coming close to) seeing the structures of Life: From imagination to vision (and back)

Macromolecular crystallography is not yet a hundred years old, but it has been a central discipline in bringing together biochemistry, structural and molecular biology, and biophysics, and in defining present views of life on Earth.

Dr Roversi will give a short historical perspective of Macromolecular crystallography. He will discuss key issues such as: choosing which molecule to look at and imagining that molecule, (coming close to) seeing it and obtaining the image and thinking about what was seen. Once the image is obtained, what does it imply? Dr Roversi will consider these questions with examples taken from his research.

Come to the Bergis Room (upper SCR) at 8:30pm – wine will be served! If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Carmella at carmella.elan-gaston@lincoln.ox.ac.uk

Thursday 6th week (February 23) 1:00pm: MCR Lunch

Enjoy a delicious lunch at high table – the same lovely quality the SCR get, but for only £4! The food is delicious and the company delightful, so sign-up here.

Friday 6th week (February 24) 8:30pm: Beer Pong

Try your hand at beer pong, a high-stakes pastime where tipsy people launch ping pong balls at each other with terrible aim; or join a thrilling game of Flip Cup, a cup-flipping relay race of destiny! What better way to celebrate the start of the weekend than to make your opponents drink a pyramid of beer?

Come to Deep Hall at 8:30pm to join in the fun. Cost is £3 for as many games beer pong and flip-cup you can get through!

===============================================
Saturday 6th week (February 25) 8:00pm: Cowley Pub Crawl

The second pub crawl of the term – this time on the other side of town in Cowley! We have a great line-up of venues to discover over the course of the evening, ending at the O2 for their weekly Propaganda Club night. This is sure to be a big night, so don’t miss out.

Meet in the lodge at 7:45pm to head down to Cowley. More details to come closer to the date!

Downing Exchange – Saturday, March 10

We are opening sign-up for the home leg of the Downing exchange HERE. It will be the big end of term dinner (think Christmas Dinner with less Christmas (i.e. Dinner)) and our chance to return the warm hospitality that Downing gave us! You do not have to have attended the away leg to attend this leg. The menu is

———————————————————————————————–
Salmon with Hollandaise (Veggie: Asparagus with Hollandaise)

Roast Contrefilet of Beef Bordelaise (Veggie: Goat’s Cheese and Red Onion Tart)
Sauté Potatoes
Glazed Carrots
Broccoli

Chocolate Profiteroles
———————————————————————————————–

As per usual, this comes with pre-dinner sherry, during-dinner wine and post-dinner port, but this time with the delightful company and conversation of the Downing crowd. The dinner will be on Saturday 10 March 2012 (Week 8). Downing will arrive in the afternoon and have a look round Lincoln and Oxford before retiring to a pub before the meal (where we will have a strong Lincoln contingent to greet them!) After the meal we will go down to Deep Hall for a few drinks before heading out to a club (as usual the MCR fridge will be well-stocked for those that would prefer to stay in.)

The total cost will be £27.95 for which you will be batteled. We have around 50 places for Lincolnites so book fast to avoid disappointment! As this will be such a high-demand event we are unfortunately unable to allow guests to attend. The deadline for signing up is 5pm Friday 24 February.
