Charities

The Lincoln MCR Charity Committee endeavours to be the first port of call for MCR members to discuss and propose charities or charitable projects that they wish the MCR Charity Fund to endorse. This Charity Fund contains the money received, at the start of each academic year, from every MCR member battelled an extra amount for charity. Please note that only those members who have paid this amount are eligible to propose charities and vote on them.

Proposals will be sent to the committee initially as set out in the MCR constitution. This can be done through the standard form that requires information such as: a brief description of the charity, how much money the charity is asking for, specifically what this money will go towards, how is the MCR member involved / excited about the charity. This form can be acquired through emailing the MCR Charity email or can be downloaded by clicking here.

The committee will hold regular meetings, which are open to the whole MCR, when proposals have been received to discuss them and hold a forum. Subsequently, the MCR Charity Rep will report on the details of the findings of such forums at MCR General Meetings. Only at general MCR meetings can charities be voted upon and actual money dispersed. The committee, hence, only acts as an advisory body that allows the MCR to equally weigh and assess all proposals made by MCR members.

In addition, the MCR Charity Committee has the right to run fundraising events with its profits designated to a charity, chosen from one of the proposals by the committee, or to add these profits to the overall charity fund.

Every year, the MCR Charity Rep will chair the committee and, if enough interest warrants, will form the committee. If formed, the following positions are suggested: secretary, fundraising rep (x2), national proposals coordinator, environmental proposals coordinator and an international proposals coordinator. The treasurer of the committee is the treasurer of the MCR by default, however, the chair will take full responsibility on reporting on the status of the charity account by liaising with the treasurer.
