Green and Environment

Hello and welcome to Lincoln MCR's Green and Environment page. Here you'll find all the information you'll need about recycling and environmentally friendly practices during your time at Lincoln.

Lincoln College does have some recycling facilities in place at its two graduate sites and on the main college site and these are described below. However, these are currently very limited - in a recent survey of Oxford colleges, Lincoln ranked 24th/33 for environmentally friendly policies and schemes. The MCR is committed to improving this, and has many plans for improvements... These are also described below, along with some general tips for recycling in Oxford that you may find useful.

If anyone has any suggestions for other improvements that could be made to college facilities, or any information not included here that other MCR members may find useful, then please feel free to get in touch with your MCR Green Reps, Richard and Susie.

Recycling

Paper

  • Museum Road - No
  • Bear Lane - Central collection point for paper
  • Main College - Central collection point in garage below Lincoln house

Plans - Better access to paper recycling on main site and at Bear Lane. Start paper recycling scheme at central points in EPA, and gradually increase number of collection points. Install recycling bins in computer rooms.

Oxford Council - If you are renting a private house, paper can be recycled at several public collection points across Oxford, and will also be collected from your home as part of the council refuse collections. See Links below for instructions and timetables.

Glass

  • Museum Road - 2 Mixed Glass bins located outside staircases 23 and 34
  • Bear Lane - Central collection point for mixed and white glass
  • Main College - Mixed and white bins in garage below Lincoln house

Plans - Potentially increase number of collection points if enough interest.

Oxford Council - Bring Banks located throughout the city, and glass is taken in curb-side collections in Green boxes. See Links.

Plastic

  • Museum Road - No
  • Bear Lane - No
  • Main College - No

Plans - Unfortunately this is one of the most difficult materials to arrange recycling for, but organising college-based collections is one of our main priorities. Meanwhile...

Oxford Council - Can be recycled at Bring Banks located throughout the city, and taken in curb-side collections in Blue boxes. See Links for locations and details of which plastic items are suitable for recycling.

Tins

  • Museum Road - No
  • Bear Lane - central collection point
  • Main College - central collection point in garage below Lincoln House

Plans - Install central collection point for tins at Museum Road Site.

Oxford Council - Bring banks located throughout the city, and taken in curb-side collections in Blue boxes. See Links.

Batteries

Oxford City council currently does not recycle batteries, however these can be taken to the County Council's Redbridge Waste Recycling Centre.

Plastic bags

We recommend re-using your plastic bags or using cloth bags or 'Bags for life' when possible. We hope to provide Lincoln College cloth shopping bags in the near future.

You can recycle your used shopping bags at the main supermarket sites. The most central of these is the Sainsburys store located in the Westgate Centre. Other Oxford addresses are listed at the bottom of this page.

- Enter your street name or postcode on this site to find the timetable for your local refuse collections and the rota for various bin types.

- This page describes what can be put in each bin to be collected by the council.
