Lincoln MCR - the Social Scene

The following events are the bread and butter of the MCR's social agenda, but don't forget to have a look at the termcard to find out what other fantastic events have been organised for this term! The Social Secretaries are always hard at work to think up new and exciting diversions for your delectation and delight...

Emily Carr Party

Our beloved Emily Carr Party is by far the most popular event organised by the MCR committee and takes place each term. This party provides a good opportunity to meet up with your College friends and also former College members who come back to Oxford just for this event! An attractive selection of cocktails, beer and wine is served freely throughout the night by an alternating team of volunteers.* Usually free entry for MCR members, with a small charge for their guests.

*Volunteers are very welcome to secure their place behind the bar for the next Emily Carr Party! You will be compensated with pizza before the party starts! Just email Xavier or Guy to register your interest.

Lord Florey Talk

Each term, one graduate student is invited to present an aspect of his or her research, making it suitable for a broad audience. The presentation, usually 30 to 45 minutes long, is followed by an interactive discussion over a good glass of wine or juice.

This informal gathering is dedicated to Lord Howard Florey, one of the most distinguished alumni of Lincoln College. Lord Florey was one of the main driving forces in the discovery and manufacture of penicillin, the first commercially available antibiotic.

Conversazione

The Conversazione is a joint event between the MCR and the SCR (Senior Common Room, or Fellows of the College) at which a member of either Common Room presents his or her research in rather general terms. This talk, usually one hour long, is followed by an academic discussion during which the audience has the opportunity to get answers to rather elaborate questions. This important occasion should not be missed, as it is a rare occasion for MCR members to share an evening together with their SCR counterparts. It is organised once a term and usually takes place on a Tuesday around mid-term.

MCR Dinners

Each term, up to four MCR Dinners are organised. They offer students the occasion to share a great meal with College friends at a subsidized price. After a glass or two of sherry served in the MCR, high quality food is served in one of the beautiful dining rooms of Lincoln College. Participants can then continue their discussion over tea, coffee and port, again in the MCR, before heading down to Deep Hall.

MCR Lunches

A few times a term, usually on Thursdays, MCR members have the opportunity to sit at High Table in Hall to be served a lunch specially laid out for them and their guests.

Exchange Dinners

Two exchange dinners are set up each term, offering the chance to dine in other Colleges' beautiful halls and mingle with their students. Students from another College are invited to eat in Lincoln's Hall while, in exchange, Lincolnites can dine in their Hall on another day. Pre- and post-dinner drinks complement this good opportunity to meet up with people from other Colleges and compare their service with your own. Unfortunately these very popular events are limited to 15 students at a time but we try to make it possible for everyone to attend once.

Movie nights

Every two weeks during term, a selected movie is screened either in the Bear Lane TV room, in the new Lady Abraham Common Room in the EPA or in our Common Room on the main college site.
