Social Secretaries: James Flewellen and Rich Simmonds
James Flewellen and Richard Simmonds are the Social Secretaries of Lincoln's MCR. They organise a wide range of events to help you make the most of the Oxford experience, meet and interact with new people, and unwind after studying hard. The termcard details the when, where and what of all these activities. Some events are termly, or annual, Lincoln traditions, such as the (in)famous Emily Carr Party and Lincoln's MCR Christmas Dinner. Other events make the most of local Oxford environment and include getting outside in the spring and summer months, local festivals and trips to concerts, pubs, and cinemas. From black tie dinners to backyard cricket, movie nights to pub crawls and parties, there's something for everyone! One prime focus for this year's social team is to make more use of the facilities we have and to encourage a relaxed, social atmosphere in the MCR. To this end, C.H.I.L.L. has been introduced on Friday afternoons. C.H.I.L.L is a chance to relax and unwind after a hard week's studying, catch up with fellow Lincolnites and make plans for the coming weekend. Rich pretends to study Engineering in between organising and attending social events. For better or worse this often involves the consumption of alcohol, but luckily for the MCR, the Engineering department and anyone else who runs into him in this state, he is a happy drunk and will invariably have a grin on his face whilst trying to maintain a semi-respectable demeanour; his preferred method of hangover removal is the religion otherwise know as football. He once drank a pint of meat stock for a £1 bet. Having been held prisoner in a computer-generated Middle Earth simulation, James, along with several other flightless natives, finally escaped Hobbiton in late 2008. Granted asylum in Oxford, he found himself in a land where, despite speaking the same language, he had difficulties making himself understood. Having overcome back-to-back winters, James now spends his time socialising over fine English ale. Perversely enough, he also enjoys choral singing and martial arts. If not found in Deep Hall, he may be making an infrequent visit to the Biophysics Department. Social Reps
